Publication of adoptions
The official information on adoptions comes from Laura and Margarita. We have a WhatsApp group to post on FaceBook and on the website, so I will add you to one of the groups.
To make a post on the website, you need complete information about cats. They often forget to provide all the information, so you have to ask.
You need name, age, neutered yes/no, de-wormed, vaccinated yes/no. And some information such as: gets along well with other cats / dogs / children ….
I have a shared Google sheet where we can keep track of this (separate tab by year).
Images
Of course, you also need some images.
Most of the time they have to be edited to fit the website. For example, for the featured image you need a landscape image with a minimum width of 1024 and a maximum width of 1920 pixels.
Most of the other images on the website are large enough, at 720 pixels wide.
Generally, the photos provided can be greatly improved with better cropping and some colour correction.
Next, it is important to optimise the photos for the website (they should not be too large).
Therefore, these should always be .JPG with a quality of 80% (so no .PNG, for example). It is also better without metadata (location, time, camera type, etc.).
The easiest way is to drop the images into the Image Optimizer application, which can be downloaded for free for Mac.
Although the website itself also tries to optimise the images, it is always better to do it yourself before uploading them.
Vídeos
Videos should always be uploaded to our YouTube channel and then the YouTube link can be placed on the website to display the video.
The reason is that YouTube automatically provides the correct version of the video depending on whether the website visitor is using a computer or a mobile phone.
Creation of messages
The site is bilingual: Spanish and English. As Spanish is the main language, we first do everything in Spanish and then translate it. Make sure that Spanish is selected at the top before posting.
You can then add a new message under “Posts”.
- Make a clear title (for adoptions we put here the name of the cat)
- Writing a block of text
- You can add more blocks of text or images or headings, etc.
- “Documents” then the following options are displayed for:
- Select the correct category to publish the post on the correct page (adoption or news).
- Upload an image (this is important, as it will be the header image). Preferred maximum size 1920 x 1080 pixels).
- Publish on the website!
Categories
It is important to assign the entry to the correct category, as this determines where the entry will be visible on the website!
E.g. “Adopt a cat”, “Adopted”, etc.
WordPress Editor
We use the WordPress block editor.
“Elementor is a visual editor, but I will remove it from the site later as it is making the site very slow.
With the block editor you can add headings, paragraphs, columns, photos, videos, etc.
Translation of pages and posts
This is a special topic, which I will explain later.
For the time being, just send me a message when a new post is made in Spanish, and I will translate it into English.
